frequently asked questions
Why soy wax?
Not only is soy wax sustainable, it lasts longer too. Soy wax burns at a lower temperature, which gives your candles a nice, long life. When well-maintained, our short candles yield about 40-50 hours of burn time, and tall candles yield about 80-100 hours.
What is the wick made out of?
Our wicks are made from natural flat cotton threads interwoven with paper threads, and are lead- and zinc-free. They burn evenly, which helps make sure your candles last longer!
How do I make my candle last longer?
The first time you burn your candle, try to let it burn for at least an hour. Let the wax melt until it’s smooth across the top, all the way to the edges.
Keep your wick trimmed! Trim the wick to ¼″ before each burn. Don’t let that beauty burn for more than 3–4 hours at a time, or it will start to smoke. And please, don’t leave your candle unattended!
What do I do with my candle when it burns out?
We can refill it for you! We can re-pour your candle with any scent you want, plus you get a discount for re-pouring too—just contact us to get started.
When you get to the bottom (about ½” of wax left), you can clean it out. The best way is to put it in the freezer overnight, then carefully chop out the remaining (frozen) wax with a small butter knife. Use warm water and soap to clean out the bottom. You can also use a hairdryer to melt that wax residue and then wipe it clean.
What’s making my candle look bumpy?
Because the soy wax we use is 100% natural, it can have some natural imperfections too. Sometimes the top of your candle may look rough or develop some air bubbles, even pulling away from the glass a bit–we call them “wet spots.” Don’t worry! Wet spots do not affect the burn time or quality of your candle. But if it really bothers you, when the wax has cooled back to room temperature, you can take a soft cloth and wipe the surface clean so it’s smooth again.
